Nau mai haere mai - Welcome to New Zealand’s largest celebration of musical theatre for theatre kids of all ages

Student groups perform 10 minutes from an MTI Broadway Junior® musical (includes JR., KIDS, or One-Act Musicals) title for adjudication by leading industry practitioners or teaching artists. Groups are rated in key areas of music, acting, dance, and overall performance. The adjudicators offer constructive criticism to encourage further learning and growth.

Workshops for students and teachers

Recognised musical theatre industry practitioners and teaching artists, both international and national, provide practical workshops for kaiako (teachers) and ākonga (students) in all aspects of musical theatre performance, on- and offstage and technical theatre.

New Work Showcase

Be the first to experience exciting new Broadway Junior® titles soon to be released.

Pathways and Direct from Broadway

One-of-a-kind mainstage events hosted by Junior Theatre Festival personalities, featuring conversations and performances with professionals from across the theatrical industry about their unique journeys and remarkable accomplishments.

Pilot Programme

The Pilot Programme offers students the chance to workshop and perform a new adaptation of a yet-to-be-released Broadway Junior® musical. In the week leading up to the Junior Theatre Festival New Zealand, students rehearse the music, choreography and dialogue in a workshop lead by industry-recognised professionals with performers from across the motu.

And so much more for all us ‘theatre kids!’

The fun begins on Friday with Professional Development for Kaiako (Teachers) and the festival opening. The Pilot Programme presentations Saturday include not only adjudications but also student and teacher workshops, meeting new friends, and the Closing Award Ceremony celebrating the achievements of everyone!
