CELEBRATIONS
Musicals are the most efficient way to deliver all of the arts disciplines in one package. Singing, acting and dancing introduce young people to music, language arts and physical education.Throughout the day, groups rotate between performing, learning from theater professionals, watching their peers perform and participating in interactive workshops. For their performances, groups present one song from their musical in front of their peers and an adjudication panel of distinguished theater professionals. Following their performances, students receive valuable feedback from the adjudicators. Additionally, adjudicators join the students onstage to work directly with them on a specific aspect of their performance. This work is done in front of the other participating groups and is designed to enlighten and educate both teachers and students on- and offstage. These performances are interspersed with skill-building workshops for the students and professional development opportunities for the teachers.
After the performances and workshops have finished, each group is awarded a Certificate of Merit, and one boy and one girl from each group is selected as a Junior Theater Celebration All-Star. These All-Stars work with the iTheatrics staff to learn a grand finale number, which they ultimately perform onstage, encouraging everyone in the audience to raise their voices in song.
