JUNIOR THEATRE FESTIVAL AUSTRALIA

The largest event celebrating the achievements of young people in musical theatre in the southern hemisphere

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Adjudication

Student groups perform 10 minutes from an MTI Broadway Junior® musical (includes JR. and KIDS titles) for adjudication by leading theatre professionals. Groups are rated in key areas of music, acting, dance, and overall performance. The adjudicators offer constructive criticism to encourage further learning and growth.

Workshops for students and teachers

Musical theatre professionals and master teachers from across the world offer interactive workshops! Workshops are offered for both teachers and students in all aspects of musical theatre performance and technical theatre.

Aussie All-Stars auditions

Selected student performers are nominated by their school or Academy to audition for an elite group of performers to travel to the United States in January each year. Students attend master classes and workshops in New York before attending the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta. Students also attend Broadway shows, Universal Studios, and Disneyland!

New Work Showcase

Be the first to experience exciting new Broadway Junior® titles soon to be released.

Pathways and Direct From Broadway

One-of-a-kind mainstage events hosted by Junior Theatre Festival personalities, featuring conversations and performances with professionals from across the theatrical industry about their unique journeys and remarkable accomplishments.

Tech Olympics

Four students from each group compete in this fun, high-energy tech obstacle course designed to get everyone pumped up about technical theatre!

Stage Whispers Teacher Support Scholarship

Presented by Stage Whispers magazine and Music Theatre International Australasia, the Stage Whispers Teacher Support Scholarship aims to celebrate and support the accomplishments of outstanding teachers and directors. The scholarship is awarded to 2 teachers each year and supports their journey to the Junior Theatre Festival Australia.

Pilot workshops

Pilot Workshops offer students the chance to perform a brand-new adaptation of a musical in a workshop setting. In the week leading up to the Junior Theatre Festival Australia, students rehearse the music, choreography, and dialogue in a workshop environment with fellow performers from across Australia.

And lots of extra jazz hand fun!

The fun begins on Friday with the presentation and performance of two new exciting Broadway musicals in development, followed by the Tech Olympics. Saturday includes not only adjudications and student and teacher workshops, but it also includes the JTF Australia dance party, spontaneous student sing-alongs, meeting new friends, and the Closing Award Ceremony celebrating the achievements of everyone!
